Pedal-Powered Grain Grinder
For the past year we have been making our own flour at the farm by grinding grain in a hand-powered grain-grinder. The problem was that it took so much time and effort to grind a small amount of grain. We soon started to see that it would be a lot more efficient if we could somehow convert it into a pedal-powered machine. The idea stayed as more of a dream than an active project until we spotted a old exercise bike in a car boot sale going for only £8 - perfect. A few days of intense work in the work shop and we had our pedal-powered grain grinder.
Grinding this much grain by hand would have taken hours, but with the pedal-power it took 20 minutes.
And the finished product is whole wheat flour scones.
