George Harrison Memorial Service

held at ISKCON Birmingham
Sunday 9th December 2001

On Sunday 9th December the Sunday programme at ISKCON Birmingham was given over to a celebration of the great contribution of George Harrison to Srila Prabhupada's mission.

After the programme of rememberance, there was a wonderful feast of Krishna prasadam distributed for the occasion.

Devotees traveled from Oxford and Leicester as well as Birmingham to be present.
Devotees give their stories on how George Harrison's involovement with ISKCON influenced their spiritual life. Even if George didn't influence their life, everyone appreciated his great contribution to ISKCON.

Tribhangananda das had done his homework and had a good resume of Sriman George Harrison's (as Srila Prabhupada called him) contribution and committment to Krishna consciousness.

This included the Krishna books (shown in the picture) which Tribhangananda told us were the first really substantial books we had to distribute. George wrote an introduction inside on the request of Srila Prabhupada.
Tribhangananda also gave many anecdotes, such as the DeLorean in which George drove up to the Prabhupada disciple re-union. It was an unusually attractive colour, and George invited the devotees to examine it. It wasn't just one colour as appeared at first, but was covered in minute stencils of the maha mantra.
Amongst other stories, Tribhangananda prabhu also showed a video of George at the Manor.

The results of the evening arati and chanting of
"hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare
hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare"
were offered to Sriman George Harrison
.
