Born in New York, 1950, Krishna-kshetra Dasa has been a devotee of Krishna
since joining the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in Germany
in 1972. Initiated by Srila Prabhupada, he preached behind the iron curtain
of communist Eastern Europe for several years in the 70s, at great personal
risk, before becoming head pujari (priest) in the movement's farm community
in Bavaria.
In 1987, he became an initiating spiritual master. He is now monitor
of spiritual standards and worship for the Hare Krishna movement's Governing
Body Commission.
In 1998, Krishna-Kshetra took up academic studies again, having interrupted
a degree in architecture nearly thirty years previously. He completed
first and masters degrees at Berkley in theology, then went on to Oxford
University, gaining a PhD in 2004 for his thesis The Grammar and Poetics
of Murti Seva - Chaitanya Vaishnava Image Worship as Discourse, Ritual
and Narrative. He also works closely with the Oxford
Centre for Hindu Studies (OCHS),
Krishna Kshetra is currently teaching and studying at Hong Kong University.
