The ship that carried Srila Prabhupada from Bombay to New York was the Jaladuta. This ship was previously known as the Shadwell, and was registered in Liverpool.

Letters from Srila Prabhupada

City Centres...

...My Guru Maharaja wanted us to open our centres in the most congested parts of major cities...
to Jayapataka Maharaja, 10 Nov 1970.

...For ourselves, we do not require a temple for serving Krsna. But, because the public must have a comfortable place to sit down and chant Hare Krsna, therefore we get a nice house, install Deity, decorate nicely and invite everyone...
to Rsabhadeva, 28 Dec 1972

Liverpool...

...In England your suggestion to open a few other Temples in big cities like Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool is very much welcome...
to Tamal Krishna, 1 May 1970.

...Similarly many other Temples can be opened in places like Amsterdam, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester etc...
to Lilavati 3 May 1970.

...As you have listed the prospective cities with the respective couple of householders to go there, these programs are very encouraging. In England there are some very important cities like Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow etc...
to Tamal Krishna, 27 May 1970.

Mission Statement

  • To follow and develop Srila Prabhupada's Seven Purposes of ISKCON in the Liverpool area.

  • To provide a central and permanent presence with resident Deities and devotees, as a focal point for Krishna Conscious activities, maintaining an attractive example of bhakti.

  • With consideration and kindness, to maximise the potential within ourselves and others, and of all tangible assets, in the service of Guru and Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada's Seven Purposes of ISKCON

  1. To systematically propagate spiritual knowledge to society at large and to educate all peoples in the techniques of spiritual life in order to check the imbalance of values in life and to achieve real unity and peace in the world.

  2. To propagate a consciousness of Krishna, as it is revealed in Bhagavad-Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

  3. To bring the members of the Society together with each other and nearer to Krishna, the prime entity, thus developing the idea within the members and humanity at large, that each soul is part and parcel of the quality of Godhead (Krishna).

  4. To teach and encourage the sankirtana movement, congregational chanting of the holy names of God, as revealed in the teachings of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

  5. To erect for the members and for society at large, a holy place of transcendental pastimes dedicated to the personality of Krishna.

  6. To bring the members closer together for the purpose of teaching a simpler, more natural way of life.

  7. With a view toward achieving the aforementioned purposes, to publish and distribute periodicals, books and other writings.

ISKCON Belfast has published a very good commentry on these seven purposes by HH Satsvarupa dasa Goswami.
