Janmastami 2001

This Janmastami, the festival started with a very beautiful mangal aarti at 5:30am. There was a very good turn out. After the mangal aarti, there was an hour's chanting. All took part and it was a very peaceful atmosphere.

After chanting, everyone got to work. There were many jobs like the cooking and the decorating of the hall. As always, everything was finished just in time!

This year, we were very fortunate to be graced by the presence of His Holiness Krishna Das Swami Maharaj. He gave some wonderful pravachan and then it was time for the bathing of Gopal.

This was conducted very beautifully and there was some wonderful kirtana.

Next, the dramas started. There were two different stories. One about a brahmin and a cobbler, and another about the birth of Lord Krishna. They were beautifully performed by the actors and gave the audience a good laugh.

There was another class after this and then it was time for the midnight aarti. This was when the real festivities began.

There was loud kirtana and wild dancing. Everybody were singing and dancing together. Everyone wished that it didn't have to end.

After midnight aarti, the feasting began. There were more than 108 offerings and everyone started to eat to their heart's content.

Janmastami was a very enjoyable day and all enjoyed the festival.
