January 2002All things must passIn the last 2 weeks 2 devotees have left this world: - Tribuvanatha prabhu and Sriman George Harrison. Lord Krishna says He is time, and time waits for no man, no matter how much wealth or power they possess. These 2 men dedicated their lives to trying to distribute the knowledge, which Srila Prabhupada brought, through preaching and music, to bring peace to this world. Tribuvanatha prabhu was a great inspiration to me (as I told him myself in fact the last time I spoke to him). He took it as his life and soul the instructions Srila Prabhupada gave him to organize festivals. We were very fortunate to serve under him when he did festivals in the 90's in the southwest. He was always very enthusiastic and focused when he did festivals and always played a part, be it an ecstatic kirtan or a presentation of the philosophy which was not only in an understandable way to newcomers, but also very thought provoking revealing his great knowledge and realization. He will be missed by the festival team in the UK and we will have to work hard to accomplish just a spark of the energy he created at festivals like the Glastonbury rock festival. He inspired and kidnapped Kripmoya prabhu for ISKCON and he was also a vital part of temple management in the early days in the UK. He started a project in Africa, which the devotees from the UK are now maintaining, of a school, restaurant and centre. I'm sure that he's in a good situation now due to his absorption in Krishna Consciousness, particularly when he was leaving his body. Sriman George, as Srila Prabhupada called him, was never formally initiated, but was considered a disciple by His Divine Grace. As many people know he donated Bhaktivedanta Manor to ISKCON and paid for the initial printing of the Krishna books. He had an interest in spiritual life since the 60's and wrote songs like "Within you without you", “Far east man”(about Srila Prabhupada), “Here comes the sun” (about the smiling faces of devotees on harinam),”Living in the material world”, “Beware of darkness” and finally “My Sweet Lord” which brought many people to the Hare Krishnas. He visited the Manor regularly and also went to Vrindavana several times. He once chanted for 30 hours while he travelled and spent 2 days with John Lennon singing and playing Hare Krishna on a boat. He was a very thoughtful and humble devotee and left this world conscious of Krishna, fearless of death and peaceful - as he had spent his life - so I'm sure Lord Krishna has taken him somewhere special. Both these special souls had vaisnava cremations and their ashes were sprinkled in the Yamuna river in Vrindavana. I hope their service to Krishna will inspire you to do something special this Christmas as on Boxing Day which was the original day for present giving (boxes). It is Moksada Ekadasi which is special as it's also Gita Jayanti (the day Lord Krishna spoke Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna) so is a good time to give someone a Bhagavad Gita. Please also try to fast from grains and beans on this day. Have a peaceful Christmas and a spiritually uplifting 2002.
