April 2003Dear Friends: I recently returned from a small preaching tour to Nottingham, Leicester and Swindon and it's very enlivening to see many devotees practising Krishna consciousness at home. It's also very interesting to see how people focus on different aspects of Krishna consciousness. For example, in the temple in Leicester every facility is for serving Krishna, but in our homes we focus on Krishna to many different degrees. One example is the plane flying to a destination, and it's always going off course by a few degrees but is pulled back by the computers; and we have a destination being Goloka Vrindavan in the spiritual world but we often go off course and need to keep pulling ourselves back. If we don't make those changes in our lives, Krishna Consciousness just becomes like armchair philosophy and we wonder why we don't feel enthusiastic anymore and why Krishna Consciousness isn't lifting us out of our diseased suffering condition in this material world. The advanced devotees in this world are always blissful and certainly never bored in Krishna Consciousness because there's always so much service to do and Krishna is constantly reciprocating with them. As I was travelling around I was showing a slide show of the festivals of ISKCON and was thinking that the spiritual world is an eternal festival that never stops and the festivals we have in the material world are just a glimpse of that nectar. Srila Prabhupada says in one lecture "Everything is there but these rascals are not taking advantage of it so we have to give people Krishna Consciousness whenever we get the opportunity" If we keep it to ourselves we are being miserly. I decided while I was travelling that I would write something about Home deity worship/offering to Krishna and chanting (japa). Your servant Minaketanarama dasa
