June 2003Ratha Yatra FeverIts a real summer of Ratha Yatras this year with a total of seven to choose from. When Lord Jagannatha comes out from the temple in Jagannatha Puri in India, thousands of devotees from all over India travel to see him even if it means walking for many weeks. The Mercy of Lord Jagannatha is immeasurable and just to see the Lord of the universe once a year for many is such a blessing from the Lord. He even allows lower class devotees to carry him from the temple along with His Brother Baladeva and Sister Subhadra. By comparrison we dont have to make such great austerities to see Lord Jagannatha- maybe drive our car for a few hours or catch a bus or train but for our small endeavour we can see His beautiful smiling face, associate with devotees in kirtan, enjoy a wonderful festival at the end of the walk and taste sumptuous prasadam (and if were very fortunate receive some Maha Prasadam). Please try to make at least one Ratha Yatra this year, and if possible go to all seven. There are many other festivals this summer including one in Swindon on the 19th July in the Town Garden from 12.00 noon til 5.0 pm organised by the ISKCON festival group and the Krishna Camp from the 8th- 14th August near Swindon organised by a few devotees including Yamuna Bihari d.d. and Vasudeva from Glastonbury. Try and catch the festival fever and see you there. Your servant Minaketanarama dasa. NewsLondon Ratha YatraNext years Ratha Yatra promises to be even more spectacular with 3 carts so shouldnt be missed as well as this years on Sunday 22nd. June. ThoughtsIn what ways have I grown spiritually this month? Spiritual teachers advise us to ask this question regularly. Growth means change - but not all changes mean growth. Change is inevitable - growth is optional! Some changes are forced upon us,and some unhelpful changes in our life are brought on by our bad choices. Growth - especially spiritual growth - is bringing about a positive series of changes over a period of time. Some of those necessary changes are hard - they invoke difficult changes. If you cant make those difficult changes, you wont grow, and if youre not growing, youre not really living. Growth means giving up familiar but limiting patterns, values no longer believed in and relationships that have lost their meaning. Spiritual growth will not be comfortable - in a very real way, it may be what we fear most - but our real fear should be of a stagnant life devoid of true growth. Fortunately for us,as we choose to adopt habits of freedom,Krishna within helps us to make the right changes. - for good.As you take one step towards Krishna He takes a thousand steps towards you.
